Turn meaningful T-shirts into a quilt while learning the complete process from start to finish. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the Borealis Babes process for transforming treasured shirts into a sturdy, usable quilt while preserving the graphics and memories that matter most.
We’ll work through the entire process together, including preparing T-shirts, applying interfacing for stability, identifying and cutting usable graphics, salvaging extra T-shirt material, and planning a custom layout based on the shirts you bring. You’ll learn how to piece your blocks into a finished quilt top, prepare the quilt layers, quilt them together, and work toward a finished quilt.
Rather than following one fixed layout, this class teaches you how to make decisions based on the shirts you actually have—different graphic sizes, shirt sizes, fabrics, colors, and quantities included. The goal is to give you the skills and confidence to approach future T-shirt quilts on your own.
This is an extended workshop and may be completed over two sessions. During our first session, we'll prepare and interface your shirts, cut your graphics, plan your custom layout, and begin piecing your quilt top. Depending on your project and sewing pace, you may take your quilt top home to finish piecing before returning for the quilting portion of the workshop. We'll coordinate your second session as needed so you have time to complete each stage without rushing.
Students provide the T-shirts they would like to use. Everything else needed for the workshop is provided.
Small class sizes allow plenty of individual guidance throughout the project.
Prior sewing experience recommended.
