Advanced Sewing Series – Sampler Quilt

Learn the foundations of traditional quilt making while creating your own throw-size sampler quilt. In this hands-on class, we'll work through five classic quilt blocks together, giving you experience with several fundamental piecing techniques and the skills to recognize and tackle these techniques in future quilt patterns.

We'll create a nine patch, log cabin, flying geese, bear paw and Ohio star block. As we work, you'll learn how to read block instructions, choose and coordinate fabrics, properly press, measure and rotary cut, maintain accurate seam allowances, match points and seams, and use different piecing techniques to construct each block.

Once your blocks are complete, I'll teach you how to lay them out and plan the finished design of your quilt. We'll work through spacing, placement and assembly so you can turn your individual blocks into a complete throw-size sampler quilt top.

Once your quilt top is finished, we'll go through preparing the backing and batting and basting all three layers together. I'll also teach you the basics of simple machine quilting and binding so you understand how to take your quilt all the way through to completion.

Because everyone works at a different pace, your quilt may not be completely quilted and bound during class. If we run out of time, you'll leave with the skills you need to confidently finish it at home. If you'd rather have Borealis Babes finish the quilting and binding for you, finishing services can also be arranged separately.

Fabric and quilt materials are not included in the class price. You're welcome to bring your own materials, and I'll provide the yardage requirements you'll need before class.

Quilt top fabric kit — $50
Includes all fabric needed to complete your throw-size quilt top.

Complete quilt materials kit — $75
Includes fabric for your quilt top, backing and binding, plus batting.

Your sampler quilt pattern and block instructions are included with your class.

All class tools and sewing equipment are provided.

Class size is intentionally kept small so every student receives plenty of individual guidance.

Basic sewing experience recommended.
